Question

1. Why TRAILS?

Antwoord

TRAILS contributes to the understanding of the determinants of adolescents' knowledge about mental (ill-)health and social development during adolescence and young adulthood, as well as the mechanisms underlying the associations between determinants and these outcomes. This knowledge is necessary for developing effective interventions and prevention.

Question

2. What does 'TRAILS' stand for?

Antwoord

TRacking Adolescents' Individual Lives Survey

Question

3. Why did TRAILS start collecting data when the participants were about 11 years old?

Antwoord

The age of 11 marks the beginning of adolescence, an important period with regard to the development of mental health problems. Whereas some adolescents overcome the problems they suffered from as a child, others get more problems. That is why we wanted to chart this period really well.

Question

4. Why is TRAILS still collecting data?

Antwoord

The TRAILS participants have grown into adults by now. By asking how they are doing at this point in time, we can investigate the long-term consequences of the developments during adolescence.

Question

5. What is the purpose of TRAILS-Next?

Antwoord

TRAILS-Next focuses on the offspring of the TRAILS participants. In this project, we hope to learn more about how parents’ history and behavior influence their children’s development.
